Will Tariffs Mess With Your Costco Haul? Here’s What You Need to Know

Hello Wanderers,

You might’ve heard rumblings about new tariffs — and if you're like us, you're wondering: Will this affect my Costco shopping cart? The short answer? Maybe. The changes haven’t kicked in yet, but they could impact prices on some everyday favorites.

We found a great breakdown from NPR and wanted to share what it could mean for your next Costco run. (Spoiler: some items might sneak up in price, but there are still smart swaps to be made!)

Here’s what to keep an eye on:

🥩 Seafood – The U.S. imports most of its seafood, so expect price jumps. BUT! Our favorite frozen pick, Kirkland Signature Wild Gulf Shrimp, is American-sourced and might dodge the hikes.

Coffee – If your beans are Arabica, odds are they’re from Latin America (which supplies 80% of our roasted imports). Not every box says where it’s from, but you can bet it’s getting pricier.

🍊 Fruit – Citrus, apples, and berries may not feel the squeeze since they are mostly grown in the country. Keep an eye on those fresh produce prices.

🍷 Alcohol – Wine lovers, don’t panic! Costco still has great prices. But wines from Europe and beers like Heineken, Guinness, and Modelo could see increases — and canned beer might double dip thanks to aluminum tariffs.

🥩 Beef – Even though most U.S. beef is domestic, supply is tight right now. NPR reports our cattle herd is the smallest since 1951 — so any added pressure (like tariffs) could nudge prices up.

🍚 Rice – Most of Costco’s jasmine and basmati rice comes from Thailand and India. U.S.-grown options like Eastide Rice and Della Organic Light Brown Rice are your best bets for avoiding price hikes.

🧀 Cheese – Tariffs could hit imports from Europe hard — think Parmigiano Reggiano, brie, and Gouda. Time to embrace a good ol’ cheddar, like from the Vermont-based Cabot brand?

🥜 Nuts – Cashews, pecans, and macadamias may jump in price. Save with Kirkland Walnuts, Wonderful Pistachios, or Kirkland Organic Almonds.

🍫 Chocolate – Cocoa prices have already been on the rise for a couple of years — and it’s not slowing down.

🫒 Olive Oil – Most Costco options come from EU countries, where prices are already up due to poor harvests. Occasionally, you’ll spot a California EVOO — grab it when you can!

Tariffs are still shifting, so it’s a bit of a moving target — but the more you know, the smarter you shop. We’ll keep sharing what we find to help you make the most of your membership (and your grocery budget!).

Our Sales Picks

🍅 Rao’s Homemade Marinara – Now $8.89

This is the marinara sauce people rave about—and for good reason. It’s slow-simmered, super flavorful, and tastes like it came from a fancy Italian restaurant (not a jar). Normally it’s a splurge, but this price at Costco for a two-pack of 28 oz jars is a steal. Perfect for pasta nights, lasagna layering, or even spooned over Costco’s frozen meatballs for a quick dinner win.

☕ Green Mountain K-Cups – Now $29.99

If your morning starts with the push of a Keurig button, this is your moment. The 100-count box of Green Mountain K-Cups breaks down to just 30¢ per cup—way cheaper than grocery store prices. It’s a reliable, smooth medium roast that won’t let you down, whether you're fueling school drop-offs or work-from-home marathons.
